October in Canada: Casa Loma!

Continuing our tour across Toronto, I took Juliette to the beautiful and historic Casa Loma. Fitting for a tour of an English/Scottish-inspired chateau, the weather was raining quite heavily, and we were glad to be inside...
It had been years since I last visited the castle. I think of it often, and it's likely that you've seen it, even if you didn't know it. Several of the rooms have featured in movies such as X-Men, X-Men: First Class, Strange Brew, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and in the television show, Warehouse 13.

Constructed between 1911-1914, for the price of $3.5 million, Casa Loma features many beautiful rooms, all furnished, designed, and decorated to suit a royal lifestyle. Sir Henry Pellatt, the owner/designer, was a major Canadian entrepreneur who seemed to seriously devote himself to his many hobbies. His home features many impressive sights, including the lovely gardens, conservatory, ballroom, theatre, radio tower, secret passageways, several bedchambers, a gallery of heroes, and one of the earliest indoor showers in Ontario.

Juliette and I grabbed an audio guide, and walked freely throughout the grounds. It remains impressive and I am really glad that people still work to maintain this place in Canada's history. It is not really a "castle", being much smaller and different in design, but it is a fine example of the craftsmanship, purpose, and luxury well-to-do people exhibited in those times. Casa Loma also features several "Escape Rooms" which we wanted to attend, but you have to book them months in advance. Definitely, next time.

There is a lot to learn and discover, so I'll just leave you with a few pictures highlighting our tour.

Thanks for reading, if you ever find yourself in Toronto with some spare time, Casa Loma is a relaxing breath of historic air.
